I've had both: working too hard and success, and therefore not being as happy as I thought I would be, a having achieved more or less everthing I wanted. Certain ways of doing things can be hard to change! With coaching I found out which 'patterns of behaviour' did not work for me, and how I could relax those. As a result I became more and more free. A key shift was also to s change my external orientation (doing things because I thought others expect it of me) into an internal orientation (doing things because I think it is important) and my level of consciousness has increased enormously.

Why does stress come up?

Some level of stress is not unhealthy, it can even turn into excitement! However, consistent stress is not. It generally is because you have negative scenario's about the future and the resulting anxiousness became a habit. Becoming consious of negative beliefs, scenario's and the resulting emotions, as well as an increased level of awareness has as a result that you are less identified with them. At the same time you become more the leader of your life, as you become more and more master of your emotions (including stress and anxiety).

When you know who you are, all layers of your personality and beyond, there will be more awareness of your (usually unconsciously) preferred reaction patterns of behavior. By increasing your awareness at the moment you tend to fall into such a pattern, you have a choice. By seeing more deeply what drives these behaviors and patterns, you become more and more free to either use what you always did (if that's effective, then why not), or to leave your pattern and do what works better. Life remains life, with sometimes challenging and sometimes fantastic periods, but you are more firmly grounded in whom you really are to deal with whatever comes your way.

Step 1 - Research your personality (Who am I?) 

By clarifying the various layers in who  you are, starting with your personality, you gain insight into what your (largely unconscious) reactive patterns are. For this we will use the Enneagram. And what's behind it. You don't go looking if you're not aware that something in your patterns (for example, too modest, or difficulty saying no, feeling responsible for everything and everyone, etc.) isn't working for you. 

In general, patterns are based on  pain avoidance, old pain. By looking at this pattern from your current adult perspective, it can relax. For example, I use methods and techniques that help you to manage your patterns.

Step 2 - Relax your personality (three levels)

By looking at your personality from 3 levels (physical, emotional, mental) you get 3 approaches to relax understand and relax your personality. Focusing coaching on each of those levels and perspectives which interrelate, the change in you becomes more fundamental. Hence an increased level of freedom from your pattern becomes a reality.  There are various methods and techniques to make changes to each of those levels.

Step 3 - Reach beyond your personality? 

By knowing better how your personality (including your patterns of behaviour) works, you know when you are 'trapped' in your patterns. Through various methods and techniques (voice dialogue, visualization, among others) you can move beyond your personality. If you see your pattern from here, then you are no longer identified with it. The more awareness shines on your pattern, the freer you become.
